Description
This is a gold gilt coin silver serving spoon which is 9 inches long and weights 2.24 ounces. It has the makers mark of Farrington & Hunnewell and has the retailers label of ” ALVAH SKINNER DEALER IN WATCHES, FINE JEWELRY AND SILVERWARE No. 62 Hanover St. UNDER THE AMERICAN HOUSE BOSTON. ” The spoon is in a wooden presentation case covered with goatskin and lined with purple satin and purple felt. The spoon is in perfect condition but the wooden presentation case has shrinking cracks and damaged goatskin covering. Farrington & Hunnewell were located at 8 Williams Court, Boston in 1837 and at 4 Court Avenue, Boston in 1850. This spoon may possibly be from the earlier location. A beautiful piece of 19th century Boston Mass. silver. # S009
